Protecting yourself from cybersecurity attacks

And how to stay safe on the internet

Use stronger passwords

Using stronger passwords will increase the amount of time a computer will take to crack your password, have a eight character password? Go beyond!

Enable multifactor authentication

Using two factor authentication (or more) prevents people from accessing your information without something of your own.

Keeping software up to date

Keeping your software up to date ensures your computer or accounts are not prone to any vulnerabilites that could be exploiters by malicious users

These are not the only things you can do to protect yourself however, you can also:

  1. Use different passwords
For every account you register, it's a good idea to generate a new, strong password for that specific account to avoid all of your accounts being compromised.
  2. Avoid suspicious emails/links
No matter what, Companies will never ask you for your password. These emails will generally have similar looking (but not exact) domain names or other elements that would make the email appear otherwise illegimate.
  3. Use different emails
Don't trust websites with your email? use a email for trusted websites like Facebook, Instagram, Stackoverflow, and a different email for lesser known websites so your primary email won't be affected by the hacker's actions.
